Predestination, Grace and the Salvific Will of God.

I'm reading William G. Most's book on "Predestination, Grace and the Salvific Will of God" which is sensibly named "Predestination, Grace and the Salvific Will of God." It's a surprisingly easy read for a book that was originally published in Latin in 1963. It also provides an interesting and easily accessible trip through the theological issues surrounding free will and predestination that developed in the controversy between the "Molinists" and the "older Thomists." These Amazon reviews are consistent with my assessment of the book.

Here is an article by Father Most on predestination in Augustine and here is a collection of links to Father Most's online books.

David Armstrong provides a lengthy review of the Molinist/Thomist dispute and concludes with Most's "solution. Armstrong describes Most as a "brilliant, underappreciated theological genius."

This is a link to another collection of Father Most's writing, and which also provides a bio.

I think what I like best about Most's book is that it is decidedly free of jargon, although he uses words that are not part of my lexicon, such as "prevision" and "title."

But that's why we have dictionaries.
