Jordan's response to ISIS barbarism...

...is barbaric, but is it unjust?

Jordan announces it will execute ISIS prisoners in retaliation for burning of Jordanian pilot alive.

On the one hand, Jordan's prisoners were caught in attempts to murder Jordanians, so these hostages are not civilians, and ISIS seems to speak in the language of hostage-taking and nothing else seems to work.

On the other hand, where does it end?

On balance, it would be unjust; we know that there is no moral justification for executing unarmed individuals who have not committed a crime and that no one can be executed without due process of law.

Nonetheless there is a "pull" toward the dark side.
