When I listen to movies from the 1930, it seems that everyone speaks with a kind of New York accent...

//New York City English is a remarkable dialect in about a dozen different ways. “If we look around the world for the national standard dialect, most people believe that the national standard is the clearest variety,” says Michael Newman, a linguist at Queens College and the author of New York City English. “But that's not the case; it's based on the most prestigious speakers. In France, upper-class Parisian is the norm. In England, it's upper-class London and the northern areas.”

Given that, the standard American dialect should be New York; newscasters in Ohio should be trying to sound like Bernie Sanders. But of course they aren’t. Standard American English dialect is “vaguely Midwestern-sounding,” says Newman. It wasn’t always this way. The old New York accent, sported by FDR, among others, was well on its way to becoming the national standard. This accent, now basically extinct, has hardly anything in common with the modern New York accent. The old accent is often referenced by one strange transition: the “er” sound became “oy,” so New Yorkers could talk about the corner of Thoity-Thoid Street and Thoid Avenue.//

Yay, Fever-swamp Liberalism!

Sending conflicting messages that attack the concept of the normal every day of the week.

Everything is permitted except self-restraint and prudence.

//We knew DeBlasio would return New York to the 70′s. We just didn’t think that return would involve topless women shaking it for tourists’ tips. Folks in the 70′s were respectable enough to keep that kind of show behind closed doors. Today it isn’t just a show, its a “social justice movement.” This “movement” is defended by feminists, no less, who feel it is a woman’s right to walk around topless in public. Offering to exchange photographs for tips. With pimps hanging over them. Sorry, I mean “bodyguards” “protecting” them in exchange for 30% of their “earnings.” Life, liberty and the pursuit of boobs for cash. Seriously it’s in the Constitution. Check it out.

These women and their supporters are not only turning women into objects, they’ve made themselves an object lesson for my son. Along with teaching him that you don’t pay a woman to look at her breasts, he’ll be learning that women should value their breasts (and their bodies in general) at a higher price than a spare dollar bill. Men, too, for that matter. My son will be learning about concepts like false accusations and how wrongful convictions impact your chances when it comes to both higher education and employment opportunities. These women will teach him how a casual attitude toward sex can lead to having to go door to door telling your new neighbors you’re a sex offender thanks to this thing called a “permanent record”. Speaking of permanent, these women and their pimps will be used to warn my son of the bodily damage that can be inflicted via a beating delivered in a back alley by a pimp with a bad attitude. In short, these women will exemplify to my son how being in the wrong place at the wrong time can ruin your life.

I’ve been to Times Square since DeBlasio took over. Its a hole. The fact that women willfully parade around half naked with their pimps lording over them does not surprise me. Its a behavior that gels with the seedy vibe. I felt cleaner after watching Midnight Cowboy than I did after walking that sorry neck of Midtown. Amsterdam, with its display window peep shows, has more class. But, New York is far from dead. I will be reminding my son that great places like the Top of the Rock and Museum of Modern Art are only a stone’s throw away. I’ll also be emphasizing to my son the trouble he’d be asking for if he ever so much as got near that hot mess of a show in Times Square.

So, dear topless women of New York, thank you for making my job as a parent all the easier. Women like you were once the stuff of hushed whispers and wild imaginations. You would inspire a young man’s intrigue and lure him into dark places or lurid pay websites. Now my son can see you for what you’ve allowed yourselves to become, and what you’re encouraging every modern woman to be: more trouble than you’re worth.//

America - Now with more Hope and Change...

...and speech regulations designed to protect politicians from voters.

New York's "Shut-Up Rule."

Free Health Care, smaller drinks and Re-education camps for everyone!

Liberal Totalitarianism comes to New York.

But what's most horrifying in Dromm's remarks is his final say on the matter. You would think that maybe his first statement of unwelcomeness was a knee-jerk and misinformed reaction. What if he were told that Chick-fil-A's CEO has repeatedly said that he has no intention of bringing the company into the political debate surrounding the issue of marriage?

From HuffPost [emphasis added]:

... Dromm, the city councilman, said there was no place for Chick-fil-A in New York, even if it remains out of the political fray.

“We don’t need bigoted people even keeping their opinions to themselves,” he said. “They need to wake up and see reality.”

Not only is the sleight of "bigot," directed toward those who hold marriage to be the union of a man and a woman, completely unfair, mean-spirited, and wide of the mark. More than that: here we have the most compelling proof one could want of Ryan Anderson's assertion that the gay rights community is engaged in a "scorched earth" policy of bigotry and intolerance.

Thoughtcrime will not be tolerated.

Forget gay marriage, this is the new trendy civil rights movement.

New York woman walks around bare-breasted to advocate equal rights for women to walk around bare-breasted.

The article says she is a topless dancer, so she is either (a) advertising (which is obviously a good business strategy) or (b) giving "product" away for free (which is obviously a bad business strategy.)

And as a Public Service Announcement to increase public awareness of the right of New York women to walk around topless, I'm posting this insightful - and pretty funny - youtube video of the news story done on this lonely advocate for equality.

You're welcome.

New York City government must have taken care of all the crime on the streets and all the problems with garbage and streets...

...because now it is going after mothers who dare - dare! - to use formula:

The nanny state is going after moms.

Mayor Bloomberg is pushing hospitals to hide their baby formula behind locked doors so more new mothers will breast-feed.

Starting Sept. 3, the city will keep tabs on the number of bottles that participating hospitals stock and use — the most restrictive pro-breast-milk program in the nation.

Under the city Health Department’s voluntary Latch On NYC initiative, 27 of the city’s 40 hospitals have also agreed to give up swag bags sporting formula-company logos, toss out formula-branded tchotchkes like lanyards and mugs, and document a medical reason for every bottle that a newborn receives.

While breast-feeding activists applaud the move, bottle-feeding moms are bristling at the latest lactation lecture.

“If they put pressure on me, I would get annoyed,” said Lynn Sidnam, a Staten Island mother of two formula-fed girls, ages 4 months and 9 years. “It’s for me to choose.”

Under Latch On NYC, new mothers who want formula won’t be denied it, but hospitals will keep infant formula in out-of-the-way secure storerooms or in locked boxes like those used to dispense and track medications.

With each bottle a mother requests and receives, she’ll also get a talking-to. Staffers will explain why she should offer the breast instead.

What say that local governments take care of traditional local governmental functions before they seek to impose utopia on Earth?
