Things are rough now...

....14 years after everyone died.

PBS : Climatologists Predict Global Warming Will Kill Us All By The Year 2000

EARTH’S CLIMATIC CRISIS EXAMINED BY ‘NOVA’
By HERBERT MITGANG
Published: June 24, 1986
PICKING up where a high-school chemistry class might end, ”Nova,” the public-broadcasting science series, offers the nonmatriculating viewer an advanced course in worrying. The cause of the concern is all the carbon dioxide that’s being pumped into the industrialized and motorized air. The hourlong broadcast is called ”The Climate Crisis: The Greenhouse Effect,” at 9 tonight on Channel 13.
The conclusion, conveyed with great authority by several big-league climatologists from government and private research organizations, is terrible: by the year 2000, the atmosphere and weather will grow warmer by several degrees and life – animal, plant, human – will be threatened. The experts say that melting ice caps, flooded cities, droughts in the corn belt and famine in the third world could result if the earth’s mean temperature rises by a mere two or three degrees.

The snows of Kilimanjaro.

According to Global Warming alarmists, Kilimanjaro will be snow-free by 2016.

As with most of its predictions, this one needs a slight tweaking, in that Kilimanjaro is actually packing on snow, rather than losing it:

Constituting the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro is slowly building up its snow cover, allaying the fears of prominent scientists who had predicted witnessing the eminence lose its famous white hat. The drifts are slowly thickening on the top point of this summit, giving new hopes to Mount Kilimanjaro environmental watchdogs and tourists that the peak may not lose its beautiful snowy cap, as scientific experts have long been warning.

Covered in mist for most of the day, Mount Kilimanjaro is the most tourist-attractive site in Tanzania, pulling in tens of thousands of foreigners and locals each year. The snow, which once had disappeared on some parts of the mountain, is piling up again gradually, making a beautiful picture out of the Kibo peak.

Sources from Kilimanjaro environmental groups said this precipitation could rise to cover most areas of the mountain, but the effects of climate change and global warming could still affect the peak’s snow layers, which have been becoming thinner and thinner.

So, the reason for Kilimanjaro's diminishing snow cap was "regional," rather than "global"?

Winner of the Paul Ehrlich Prize for 2012.

The Science of Global Warming is Settled!

And science is science because it makes testable predictions!

According to Watts Up With That?, in 1988, Global Warming proponent James Hansen predicted that in 40 years the West Side Highway in Manhattan would be covered by the sea. The West Side Highway is 10 feet above sea level. In 23 years, sea levels have risen only 2.5 inches.

WUWT observes:

According to the actual data, after 23 years, we’ve seen about a 2.5 inch rise. There’ s still a very long way to go to ten feet to cover the West Side Highway there.

To reach the goal he predicted in 1988, Dr. Hansen needs to motivate the sea to do his bidding, he’s gonna have to kick it in gear and use a higher octane driver if he’s going to get there.

A candidate for the Paul Erhlich Award: Another disaster that didn't happen.

Back in the '80s the scare factor was that AIDS would explode through the heterosexual population. At the time there were those who argued against this scenario, but they were regularly denounced as anti-scientific or anti-gay or some-such.

It turns out that nearly 30 years later, the skeptics were right after all. According to the Center for Disease Control:

Gay, Bisexual, and Other Men Who Have Sex with Men (MSM)1of all races and ethnicities remain the population most severely affected by HIV.

CDC estimates that MSM account for just 2% of the US population, but accounted for 61% of all new HIV infections in 2009. MSM accounted for 49% of people living with HIV infection in 2008 (the most recent year prevalence data are available).

In 2009, white MSM accounted for the largest number of new HIV infections of any group in the US, followed closely by black MSM.

Young, black MSM were the only risk group in the US to experience statistically significant increases in new HIV infections from 2006–2009.

Another myth casually debunked by the CDC cite is the "10%" myth that was bruited about throughout the '70s and '80s, namely that one in ten Americans is homosexual. Apparently, the true figue is close to 2%.

Presumably, the interesting questions are: Why was the prediction of disaster so wrong? Who was responsible for making the wrong predictions? And, can we stop listening to these clowns in the future?

Here's a graph:

Another question - why are the infection rates so different between the white and black populations?

Strange.
