I knew Stephen Glass was full of it in 1997 after I read his absolutely incredible story about all the sex and crazy partying done by young Republicans at a conservative gathering called CPAC. I had been at enough conservative functions — including that one — to know that they would have been a heck of a lot more interesting if they focused on sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll. But in the fever dreams of Stephen Glass, they did. Here are the opening two paragraphs of the very detailed story that, it later turned out, nobody could verify:

On the fourth floor of Washington’s Omni Shoreham Hotel, eight young men sit facing each other on the edge of a pair of beds. They are all 20 or 21 and are enrolled in Midwestern colleges. Each is wearing a white or blue shirt with the top button unfastened, and each has his striped tie loosened. One of the young men, an Ohioan, is wearing a green and white button that reads: “Save the Males.” The minibar is open and empty little bottles of booze are scattered on the carpet. On the bed, a Gideon Bible, used earlier in the night to resolve an argument, is open to Exodus. In the bathroom, the tub is filled with ice and the remnants of three cases of Coors Light. The young men pass around a joint, counterclockwise…

Over the next hour, in a haze of beer and pot, and in between rantings about feminists, gays and political correctness, the young men hatch a plan. Seth, a meaty quarterback from a small college in Indiana, and two others will drive to a local bar. There, the three will choose the ugliest and loneliest woman they can find. “Get us a real heifer, the fatter the better, bad acne would be a bonus,” Michael shouts. He is so drunk he doesn’t know he is shouting. Seth will lure the victim, whom they call a “whale,” back to the hotel room. The five who stay behind will hide under the beds. After Seth undresses the whale, the five will jump out and shout, “We’re beaching! Whale spotted!” They will take a photograph of the unfortunate woman.

So we have eight conservative men — first names only, thank you! — who participate in a gang sexual assault after drinking beer and smoking a joint. Where have I heard this story beforesince?

Should national media be paying more attention to Obama bundler accused of child sex exploitation?

There's a growing meme in the conservative blogosphere that members of the national media are using a double standard in largely ignoring the arrest on sex charges of Terry Bean, the prominent Democratic fundraiser and gay activist from Portland.

"If real estate mogul and deep-pocketed White House donor Terry Bean were a Republican,he'd be a household name by now," conservative pundit Michelle Malkin wrote in her latest column after Bean had his first court appearance in Eugene on Wednesday.

Bean, 66, was arrested Nov. 19 on charges of having sex with a 15-year-old boy in a Eugene hotel room along with 25-year-old Kiah Lawson, who was also charged.

Bean, who has pleaded not guilty and declared his innocence through his lawyer, is a longtime Democratic fundraiser and member of the Democratic National Committee who also helped found the Human Rights Campaign.

Two CNBC journalists reveal that CNBC told them not to report adverse information about Obamacare.

During her Friday program on the "Fox Business Network," Melissa Francis made a truly scandalous revelation. "when I was at CNBC, I pointed out to my viewers that the math of Obamacare simply didn't work. Not the politics by the way; just the basic math. And when I did that, I was silenced." Francis eventually brought on Charlie Gasparino another FBN employee who used to work at CNBC who told of the time the network's anchors where called into Jeff Immelt the head of GE's office (GE owned CNBC at the time) for a discussion whether or not the network was being fair to President Obama and his economic policies. 

Francis began her program with two of the recent Jonathan Gruber videos where he talks about in crafting Obamacare, he picked verbiage that would fool the stupid Americans. Francis who has a degree in economics from Harvard, followed the clip with her account of being taken out to the woodshed at CNBC explaining that the basic math of Obamacare didn't make sense"

Straight from the horse's mouth, Jonathan Gruber telling you that the architects of Obamacare think you're stupid and most importantly, they are absolutely counting on your lack of economic understanding. They aren't the only villains in this story though. They are also depending on the liberal media to help them cover up the truth. So far NBC, ABC, The L.A. Times" and Associated Press and others, have been only too happy to comply. Those outlets have not even mentioned the video evidence, from Jonathan Gruber. It is shocking.

But it actually doesn't surprise me. Because when I was at CNBC, I pointed out to my viewers that the math of Obamacare simply didn't work. Not the politics by the way; just the basic math. And when I did that, I was silenced.

I said on the air, that you couldn't add millions of people to the system and force insurance companies to cover their preexisting conditions without raising the price on everyone else. I pointed out that it couldn't possibly be true that if you like your plan you can keep it. That was a lie. And in fact millions of people had their insurance canceled.

Ms Francis brought in Howard Kurtz who said he wasn't surprised by bias just that it was so blatant.

Finally the host brought in another FBN reporter Charlie Gasparino, who was also a CNBC alumnus, Gasparino told two media bias horror stories:

I quite frankly am surprised. I---listen I’m not surprised by liberal bias. I worked in the mainstream media throughout my career. I'm right of center. I never held back my feelings about, I’m a devote’ of the free markets, never held back on that. I seen the way it works, usually as Howard says, a lot more subtle. I will say this though; I know Mark Hoffman runs CNBC. I actually think he is a decent guy. I know Nick Yogan who runs the news, runs news operations, decent guy.

But I will say this, and here is one of chilling aspects working in the mainstream media. Two points. When I was at "Newsweek" when it looked like the exit polls were in and George W. Bush was going to lose to John Kerry, people were doing high fives in the newsroom. I’ll tell you that, that’s one.

The second thing is, there was a thing, at CNBC, right after the elections when President Obama first took office, the markets were getting crushed. The markets were scared about Obamanomics and his ability to lead. Tim Geithner didn't lend a lot of courage and confidence in the markets. And we as a network started talking about that. No sooner did we talk about that, than Jeff Immelt the head of GE, which owned CNBC at time called a meeting of senior people, including mostly anchors. Didn't call me, thank God. And they basically had a talk, a discussion about whether CNBC was being fair to the president. We should point out that GE got a lot of largess, received a lot of largess from the Obama administration over the years. Now did they tell you during this, did they tell the people during this meeting, go easy on Obama? No. But you know there is a chilling effect when your boss calls you in, says, not just your boss, the head of GE, everybody is sitting around and you're saying, oh, are we being fair to the president by pointing out that his economic theories make no sense or whatever we were doing? And you know that is the mainstream media. You know people attack Fox all the time and we give the other side all the time?

More reliable than Pravda.

Candy Crowley interferes in the Romney-Obama debate by taking Obama's side concerning the false Benghazi spin.  And now we know that CBS spiked a newsworthy clip from an interview with Obama that showed him refusing to identify the Benghazi attack as actions by terrorists.

Sunday on Fox News Channel's "MediaBuzz," investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson told the story of CBS executives intentionally hiding a clip from the day after the Benghazi attacks with President Barack Obama refusing to admit Benghazi was a terrorist attack.

Host Howard Kurtz asked, "Let's talk about what happened with '60 Minutes,' the day after the Benghazi attacks with President Obama. and that sounded like -- or some of that interview ended up not being used. after the second 2012 debate, it became a big issue whether or not the president had or had not referred to Benghazi attacks as terrorist attacks." 

During the 2012 presidential debate, Mitt Romney had said it took Obama 14 days to admit the attack was terrorism but Obama bulked saying he did that day, but when asked the next day he is seen refusing to give a terror motive saying, "Well, it's too early to know exactly how this came about, what group was involved. but, obviously, it was an attack on Americans." 

Attkisson said, "Let me say that that exchange should have been pulled out immediately after the debate, which would have been very newsy at the time. It was exclusive to CBS. It would have to me proven Romney's point against Obama. But that clip was kept secret."

"I was covering Benghazi, nobody told me we had it and directed me from the 'Evening News' to a different clip of the same interview to give the impression that the president had done the opposite. And it was only right before the election that somebody kind of leaked out the transcript to others of us as CBS and we were really shocked. We saw that was something very unethical done to have kept that up."

She added, "The 'Evening News' people who had access to that transcript, according to the emails that I saw when it was sent from '60 Minutes' to 'Evening News' the very day it was taken, they, in my view, skipped over it, passed it up, kept it secret. And I think that was because they were trying to defend the president and they thought that would be harmful to him."

You have to wonder how people in liberal enclaves are processing the loss of the Senate...

...given the news blackout on the midterms imposed by the liberal media.

From September 1 (the unofficial kick-off of the campaign season) through October 26 – almost two full months – there were 118 full reports on CBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News, and ABC World News Tonight; there were another 86 stories that mentioned the campaign — for a total of 204 stories.

In the exact same time frame in 2014, there were 31 stories, a  disparity of more than six to one.

In 2006, NBC had 79 stories on the midterm elections. This year, 15.

In 2006, CBS had 75 stories. This year, 16.

In 2006, ABC filed 50 reports. This year, not one.

The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times discovered the story briefly on August 27, and NPR aired two reports, on August 26 and 27. The New York Times then put it on the front page on September 2. But none of these stories made any mention of Muslims or Islam. These child abusers were not clerics, but their religious heritage was as politically touchy as their ethnicity. 

Take the Catholic Church out of it.and child-sex scandals aren’t particularly scandalous in the eyes of the press.//

This clip from 1992 of reporters claiming how Republicans just seem to have an unthinking bias against them is almost poignant, particularly the buttons that said "Rather biased."  That was a play on the bias of Dan Rather, who the reporters obviously thought was the font of objectivity.

Of course, that was 12 years before Dan Rather lost his job in a scandal that involved presenting obviously forged documents in a plan to unseat Republican George Bush.

The New York Times is tolerant of atheist attacks on Catholicism....

....but absolutely won't permit ads identical to attack ads on Catholicism to be run against Muslims.

Geller wrote that in response to her groups' ad, Bob Christie, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications for the New York Times, called “to advise me that they would be accepting my ad, but considering the situation on the ground in Afghanistan, now would not be a good time, as they did not want to enflame an already hot situation. They will be reconsidering it for publication in 'a few months.'”

Predictably, the “few months” have turned into two years, and the Times has yet to run Geller's ad — while it continues to roll with the FFRF's ongoing paid anti-Catholic diatribe.

Volokh noted that the Times' response to Geller's submission is proof of one of the points Geller had earlier made: “Almost no Catholics are likely to respond violently even to harsh criticism of the Catholic Church — but enough Muslims are likely to respond violently to harsh criticism of Islam (whether the response is against the critic or against others) that the Times itself views such criticism as unsafe. There are plenty of peace-loving Muslims, but unfortunately there are also enough extremist Muslim thugs to affect what the Times is willing to publish.”//

A child psychologist, he backed a law “to ban the sale of violent videogames to minors,” which the Supreme Court struck down by a 7-2 vote in the 2011 case Brown v. Entertainment Merchants Association . The most interesting aspect of that case was the two very different dissents: Justice Clarence Thomas would have upheld the law on the ground that the First Amendment was never meant to apply to children, while Justice Stephen Breyer argued that it was constitutional because it was based on sound social science.

But on one topic he held to the standard liberal line. “He was involved in efforts to regulate guns, particularly after the 2012 mass murder of children at a Connecticut elementary school, a tragedy that Yee said touched him,” the Times notes. National Review’s Tim Cavanaugh elaborates, noting that his arrest in the alleged gun-running conspiracy comes “less than a year after [he was] pushing wide-ranging bills to require micro-stamping, restrict magazine choice, and regulate private handling of legally owned weapons.”

By contrast, the Times reports that in dealing with his alleged co-conspirators, “the senator’s approach to arms dealing was ‘agnostic,’ the 137-page [affidavit] says. ‘People want to get whatever they want to get. Do I care? No, I don’t care,’ Yee allegedly said. ‘People need certain things.’ ”

One marvels at the evident hypocrisy. Was Yee’s zeal for gun control an expression of a guilty conscience–a moralist’s battle with his own inner demons? Or was he consistent in doing whatever seemed expedient? Perhaps that enigma will be unraveled as the case proceeds.

CBS New Reporter is out at CBS because she wants to report news.

CBS News investigative correspondent Sharyl Attkisson has reached an agreement to resign from CBS News ahead of contract, bringing an end to months of hard-fought negotiations, sources familiar with her departure told POLITICO on Monday.

Attkisson, who has been with CBS News for two decades, had grown frustrated with what she saw as the network’s liberal bias, an outsize influence by the network’s corporate partners and a lack of dedication to investigative reporting, several sources said. She increasingly felt that her work was no longer supported and that it was a struggle to get her reporting on air.

At the same time, Attkisson’s reporting on the Obama administration, which some staffers characterized as agenda-driven, had led network executives to doubt the impartiality of her reporting. She is currently at work on a book — tentatively titled “Stonewalled: One Reporter’s Fight for Truth in Obama’s Washington” — that addresses the challenges of reporting critically on the administration.//
