The Feminine Mystique.

Child Molesters and Serial Killers?

Women can do everything a man can do.

And that's a disappointment.

I think the disappointment is what men do.

The fact that only 1/6 of serial killers are women (per the article) speaks relatively well for women (and relatively badly for men).

Perhaps I'm over-reading, but the tone of your comments makes it sound like you believe that allowing women equal rights and equal protection under the law has something to do with women being serial killers (e.g. sarcastically saying "women can do everything a man can do" in reference to serial killing).

No, I'm not saying that.

What I was really saying was that recent years have tended to focus on female exceptionalism - first female this, women are better at that. On the other hand, there has been a tendency to note - to actively get pissy about - things that are not so laudatory. For example, if serial killing were considered a blow against patriarchy, we would be hearing about how women are being denied their opportunity to excel at serial killing rather than being limited by social expectations to a mere 1 in 6 of the relevant population.

"if serial killing were considered a blow against patriarchy . . ."

Totally pointless logic. Imagine a sentence starting with the phrase "if gang rape were considered a blow against tyranny . . . "
